The combination of materials – finely ground soapstone encased in a silicone shell - creates a soft, malleable, tactile product with a pleasant weight, which also has a superior ability to retain and slowly radiate heat or cold.

The warm pad feels like it contains a supple, pliable gel. When you place it against your body, for example over your neck or shoulders, it feels heavy and warming - like a reassuring and friendly hand. Tension is released and breathing becomes deep, calm and slow.

The heat radiating from your Ergostone is even and gentle. It helps you to relax - or to disconnect from distractions and sharpen your focus.

Before a competition, tactile stimulation can be exactly what you need to prepare and increase your ability to concentrate and visualise. After a competition, it can be exactly what you need to quickly enter a beneficial state of rest and total relaxation.

The malleable mass of soapstone and its inherent ability to absorb, store and slowly release heat makes Ergostone a soothing aid for both body and mind. It is therefore often used to reduce anxiety and stress, at the interface between anxiousness, tension and physical pain.

Heat and cold for pain relief and well-being

A warm Ergostone has a relaxing effect, both on the mind and on the body, at the location where the heating pad is applied. Heat therapy is used to soften tense muscles and resolve muscle cramps, as well as increase blood flow in the tissues. This in turn can relieve pain, aches and discomfort.

Cold, on the other hand, reduces circulation and blood flow and can therefore be used to alleviate swelling and inflammation - particularly in acute soft tissue injuries. In such cases, cold is also excellent for pain relief.

For an active rider - who is likely to need both heating and cooling treatments more often than most - it's good to know that Ergostone can be heated and cooled as needed. Hence, whether your muscles are tense and overworked or you've suffered a sprain, Ergostone can be used for quick pain relief, making it very versatile and convenient to have at hand. Soapstone also retains heat or cold for significantly longer than similar products with different contents. This is due to soapstone's unique and exceptional ability to store heat or cold.

The return of soapstone

Inside Ergostone's silicone shell is a coveted natural material whose properties have been appreciated since prehistoric times. Soapstone absorbs large amounts of heat and releases it slowly and evenly. The mineral is also soft and can be easily moulded - even carved with a knife, hence its name. The name ‘soapstone’ also tells us that the surface is reminiscent of soap; it is slippery and greasy, allowing you to cook in soapstone cookwarewithout using fat.

Ergostone is an all-Swedish company that has chosen to revive the more than 500-year-old tradition of soapstone processing in Handöl in Jämtland. Soapstone has been quarried at the site and turned into refractory utensils - such as stoves, fireplaces, pots and pans - since at least the 16th century. It was only a few decades ago, however, that the soapstone factory was permanently closed and Handöl began to be depopulated.

Finding new uses for the unique qualities of soapstone is also the beginning of a new era for the soapstone district of Handöl. Ergostone utilises soapstone that has already been quarried, reusing the material in a new way for the benefit of the health and well-being of modern-day people.
